Civil Rights: Then and Now

In the 1960s, the civil rights movement was at its height. Congress passed the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act in 1964 and 1965, which first outlawed segregation in public places and dismantled laws that previously had prevented people from voting based on their race.
